Show Report 2009

Once again Launceston in common with many other summer shows suffered at the hands of the weather.

Just as the Show was getting into its stride at around 10 o’clock rain began to fall and by lunchtime the intensity had been such that regrettably and yet again the afternoon programme including the Grand Parade had to be abandoned on safety grounds.

Mercifully the cattle, sheep and horse classes just managed to finish their judging classes before the whole showfield turned into a sea of mud and showgoers had just about managed to have a good look around in the morning.

By 2 o’clock show officials together with many volunteers from the trade stand community lending tractors had a full exit strategy in place to get both exhibitors and the public safely away from the Showsite.Despite the conditions it was nice to see almost everyone leaving with a smile on their face – obviously appreciating what we were trying to do – and what we were up against!

A huge THANK YOU to all those volunteers who worked that afternoon and into the evening to get people away and to those who spent many hours after the Show supplying machinery and labour to reinstate the site. This could not be done quickly as the bad weather continued for some time and our special thanks go to the landowners John & Joan Whale for their understanding during this time.
